Syntax Issue 10
Denver Syntax
{postcards}
  emily stueven

Send me postcards.
Leave me to go there and then send some.
Scrawl the cliché, if it’s not on the fronts, “wish you were here.”
A town in four squares, all the attractions of a darn small town.
See those four attractions and buy a postcard at the last one’s gift shop.
On a bench, quickly, or in a motel room, write to me.
“Wish you were here” and then some X’s an O’s.

Send a pretty postcard of a wildflower, a state flower, or a girl at a rodeo.
Send a funny postcard of a dog and a slumped cowboy on a horse.
“Cowboy Taxi Service.”

You’ll leave me in the morning.
I’m not invited to go.

Send me some postcards that have been near the sea.
That have been in your hands.
