In Issue 2 we featured the Denver band, The Very Hush Hush. There we remarked on the band’s undeniable proclivity for meeting an audience in that place where the sea crashes against the rocks of civilization. Now the band is no longer a Denver band, as they have moved to San Francisco to be closer to a tighter touring schedule and their label, Sao Bento Music.

But apart from geography, the band hasn’t changed. And a testament to this fact is TVHH’s new album, mourir c'est facile – a stunning collage of driving, sailing, flying and yes, of crashing.

The album is a movement of sound resembling something more topographical than anything: There’s colossal peaks and fertile valleys. And littered between the crests are careful arrays of melody and ambiance.

The TVHH’s signature high-revving cymbals are everywhere. On “Slow Destroyer”, the collision of vocals and guitars meet a thick buzz of electronic fuzz. On “Eyes Become Rooms” Peter and Grant ride the crash with a high hat and drum down the idea that remedy is found in singing “that sinking sound/and make it all better with just one kiss”. And the ethereal vocals in “The City Light” sweep like brushes across their kits.

With Ray Caesar’s cover art, mourir c'est facile is a complete album – from cover to cover.

En summa, mourir c'est facile is haunting, beautiful, melodic and smells of the ocean under the canopy of a neon green night.
